Benjamin, owner of Supreme Carpet Cleaning

Benjamin Bertolami here, owner of Supreme Carpet Cleaning, and today I'm giving you a behind-the-scenes look at carpet steam cleaning in Calgary. We're a small, family-owned business that has looked after homes in Calgary, Airdrie, Cochrane, and nearby communities since 2021. Our customer, TJ, had soiled carpets and wanted them steam cleaned the right way.

So walk with me through the visit, one step at a time. I'll show you what we did and, more importantly, why we did it. If your own carpets are looking tired, this little tour might help you decide it's time to call in professional carpet cleaning.

Here's TJ's Story

TJ reached out for a simple reason. The carpets at home were soiled, and TJ wanted them steam cleaned. Sounds easy, right? But a good clean starts with knowing what you're up against.

Here in Calgary, carpets work hard. We track in fine, silica-heavy prairie dust all year long, and in winter it's road salt and de-icing minerals too. All of it sinks deep into the pile, kind of like the sand that collects at the bottom of a beach bag. You can't always see it, but it's there, and every footstep grinds it a little deeper into the fibres.

TJ didn't want that dirt pushed around. TJ wanted it out. That's exactly the kind of carpet cleaning in Calgary we love to do, so on July 10, 2026, my team and I loaded up and headed over.

Arriving and Taking a First Look

We aim to be on time for every job, and that's how we like to start. Your day matters, and nobody wants to stand at the window wondering where the cleaners are.

Our process begins with a look before any equipment rolls in. I think of it like a checkup at the doctor. Would you want a treatment before anyone has even looked at you? Carpet is the same. We check where people walk the most, watch for fibre damage, and note any spots that might need extra care. That way we clean with a plan instead of guessing.

TJ's carpets were soiled, and you can see where we started in the before photos below.

Why does soil matter so much? Carpet works like a giant filter for your home. It traps dust, pet dander, allergens, and grit that a regular household vacuum just can't reach. Over time, those tiny bits act like sandpaper. They rub against the fibres every time someone crosses the room, and that wear can make carpet look dull and thin before its time.

So the plan was simple. Get the loose soil up, break the deeper dirt free, then flush it all out.

Our Carpet Steam Cleaning Process in Calgary

Step one was vacuuming out the dry soil. Lots of people want to jump straight to the water, but that's a mistake. Dry dirt plus water equals mud, and mud just smears deeper into the carpet. You sweep the kitchen floor before you mop it, right? Same idea here. Pulling that dry grit out first helps every step after it do its job.

Step two was the pre-spray. We put a cleaning solution down and let it start working. We use eco-friendly products that are safe for kids and pets, so families don't have to worry once we've packed up. Picture a greasy pan soaking in the sink. The soak does a lot of the hard work before you ever grab a sponge. Pre-spray does the same thing, loosening the soil's grip on each fibre.

Step three was agitation, where we work that pre-spray down into the carpet. It's a bit like washing your hair. Pouring shampoo on top doesn't do much until you scrub it in with your fingers. Agitation moves the solution past the surface and into the dirt hiding lower down.

Step four was the main event: hot water extraction carpet cleaning, which most folks just call steam cleaning. Hot water rinses through the fibres while strong vacuum power pulls the water back out, along with the loosened soil. We don't blast carpet with high pressure, because that can harm what's underneath. Instead we use a steady, controlled flow that lifts the dirt and carries it away.

Why go to all this trouble? Because rinsing matters as much as cleaning. Leftover soap can turn sticky and grab new dirt fast. Extraction is meant to pull out the soil and the cleaning solution together, so the fibres aren't left coated. That's the difference between deep cleaning and a quick surface pass.

The Hand-Back: See the Photos for Yourself

Once the last extraction pass was done, the work TJ asked for was complete. Vacuuming, pre-spray, agitation, and extraction, all four steps, in that order. I'll let the before, during, and after photos below do the talking, because pictures are more honest than any sales pitch.

Why does the order matter? Each step sets up the next one, like dominoes in a neat line. Vacuuming clears the loose grit. Pre-spray and agitation loosen the deeper dirt. Extraction is there to flush it away. Take one domino out and the whole line stops short.

There's a bigger reason we care about this, too. Gritty bits left in carpet keep grinding at the fibres, and removing them is how professional carpet cleaning helps carpet last longer. Pulling out trapped dust and allergens also supports healthier air at home. That's why carpet steam cleaning in Calgary is about more than looks.

With the job done, we packed up and handed the carpets back to TJ.

A Note From Benjamin

Handing the carpets back is my favourite part of any visit. TJ asked us to steam clean soiled carpets, and we followed our full process from start to finish with no shortcuts. Dry soil vacuuming came first, then pre-spray, agitation, and hot water extraction. For TJ, that means the carpets got the complete treatment, not a quick spray-and-go. Jobs like this remind me why I got into this work in the first place. I love helping families keep cleaner, healthier homes, one room at a time.
